This is where my project begins. I was given a task by HALT (Hopkinton Area Land Trust) to clear, mark, and preserve the new trail. I was also tasked with building a 12 foot bridge.
The beginning of the trail was closed in and hard to walk on. There was not a lot of space and at points there was no way to tell which direction to go.
As it appears above the trail was going to need a lot of work but still be preserved and not destroy the enviornment.
Before I could build the bridge I had to have the bridge plans approved by the Board members of H.A.L.T. and fundraise to buy the lumber.
Building the bridge had 4 main phases:
The first phase was measuring and cutting all of the boards.
The second was hauling the lumber in and organizing pieces for a safe and efficient build.
The Third was prepping the site by digging holes for the posts to go in to the ground and removing dirt so that the bridge could lay as flat and level with the ground as possible.
The fourth and longest phase was screwing and nailing the bridge together. It presented many challenges to get the bridge to have equal spacing between the slots.
The bridge is still holding strong to this day. I am very proud of myself and my troop for helping me along my journey.
At the end the trail was just wide enough for two people all the way through and was clearly marked. We also made sure to not take down any trees or hurt the environment in the process.
I had a lot of fun on my journey through scouting and made many friends along the way.
I became an Eagle Scout on Feb. 29, 2016.
After I finished my project I had a scout master conference and had an Eagle Board of Review.
I am grateful to my friends and family who helped me through the journey.
